"The mountain is a sister" 2021
In late Fall of 2021, Venaya was commissioned by Bears Ears Coalition organization to

create an original painting that "celebrated" the place in the southwest cultural landscape

called "Bears Ears."  Venaya made this work with the concept of "sacred places" in mind.

'Shash Jaa' the mountain itself is a vital are of the cultural landscape of the Dine' (Navajo),

Hopi, Zuni, Pueblo and Ute people.

The painting includes many aspcts of the Bears Ears natural community, with specific

attention paid to the flora and fauna, skyscape, and medicinal plant life and insect species

that are unique to this female mountain. Link: www.instagram.com/bearsearscoalition/
